COLLEGE KITEBOARDING CLUB
College Kiteboarding on South Padre Island
The University of Texas at Brownsville Collegiate Kiteboarding Association was founded in 2009. The college kite surfing club is meant to give kids and students in the area a chance to learn more about the sport. The sport of kiteboarding is sometimes be referred to as kitesurfing, kiteboarding, flysurfing, kite boarding, or kite surfing, but they all mean the same thing, using a large kite to capture wind and pull oneself accross the top of a body of water. Since the campus is only 30 minutes away from South Padre Island, Texas, there is no reason why this college kiteboard club should not be able to compete with the top schools in the nation on the collegiate contest level. South Padre is home to fantastic year round winds in a warm climate that rivals the top kiteboarding destinations in the world. The Laguna Madre Bay is also a great location to learn how to kite surf. With over 1 million acres of shallow water, learning how to kite board couldn't be made easier. Since you can touch the ground everywhere in the bay, a student can spend more time flying the kites, and less time trying to relaunch them if they crash. In deep water, it is much harder to relaunch a kitesurfing kite, so the shallow water of the Laguna Madre is optimal for kiteboarding instruciton. Please feel free to come to our kiteboard meetings that are held twice a month at Wanna Wanna beach bar. You do not need any prior kite surfing experience to join the club. You only need to have a love for the beach.

Keep it Steezy
The 4th rule of the UTB Kiteboarding Association. Keep it steezy. Ride how ever you want to ride. Whether one chooses to kite board with straps, boots, strapless, or with shoes on; ride a skimboard, a twin-tip, wakeboard, wakeskate, surfboard, body board; fly a kite with bridles, without, with a fifth line, on a pulley bar, or even a 2-1 bar, unhooked, hooked-in, naked; fly a C-kite, a bow kite, hybrid, SLE, SSLE, delta-shaped, sigma shaped, floating mattress, or a foil kite. Whichever means of kiting you use, remember to remain steezy while kitesurfing.
