THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS
BROWNSVILLE
KITEBOARDING ASSOCIATION
UTB Kiteboarding Association
Welcome to the University of Texas at Brownsville Collegiate Kiteboarding and Kitesurfing Club. This south Texas Kiteboarding club is composed of students that attend the University of Texas at the Brownsville location. The main riding spot near Brownsville is a short 30-minute drive from campus to the wide-open sandy beaches of South Padre Island, Texas. The Kite boarding and Kite surfing on the Island of South Padre Island is home to world-class conditions. The windy season in South Padre begins mid-October and extends through July of every year! Conveniently, this is also the time of year that college is in session. This collegiate kite surfing club was started with the purpose of educating more locals on the sport of kite boarding in South Padre Island, Texas. We provide students with the knowledge and resources to safely get into the sport of kitesurfing. Although, we do not teach new students how to kiteboard ourselves, for liability reasons, we do have the resources and discounts at the local South Padre Island kiteboarding shops to provide the members safe integration into the sport.
Collegiate Kite boarding Association - CKA
The UTB Kiteboarding Association is part of a national organization by the name of Collegiate Kiteboarding Association - CKA for short. The College kiteboarding association is composed of numerous collegiate kite surfing clubs across the United State of America. This year there will be several college kiteboarding competitions held on the east coast, mostly in Florida, as well as on the west coast of the US. College kitesurfing is continuously growing region in the sport, and it holds the future of where the sport will go as well as who will run the industry. UTB Kiteboarding is proud to be a part of the CKA and is down with the idea of educating more kite surfers through schooling, as well as educating more college students about the sport of kite boarding. The College Kiteboarding Association national competition will be held in Corpus Christi, Texas, just a short drive north on the coast from South Padre Island. Stay tuned for more updates on the college kite boarding circuit events, parties, and kite locations across the nation.

Don't Mess with Texas Beaches
Thanks to all of those who voted in favor of proposition 9! We do not have to worry about our Texas beaches becoming private. South Texas beaches including South Padre Island will be kept public, with public beach accesses left intact. This means the continued use of the beaches on SPI for kiteboarding by the UTB Kite boarding club.
